Policy Memos should be about 850-900 words. You must have at least 5 Academic sources for your paper (although more are recommended). Policy prompts and extended explanation of requirements can be found on the class page. Format should generally be the following:

  • Summary: Short introduction to the problem (who, what, when, where, and why)
  • Background: Brief discussion of current policy
  • Analysis & Recommendation: Your proposed solution, written in such a way as to clearly flag how you are incorporating class concepts, ideas, and theories. This should be oriented toward a policymaker who does not have explicit knowledge of IR theory and concepts (e.g. do not write “realism / liberalism / constructivism says X” but rather use ideas and concepts from the theories to make your case). This section should make up the bulk of your paper.

Autism is a developmental disorder characterized by difficulties with social interaction and communication, and by restricted and repetitive behavior. In recent years India has begun to see a severe rise in cases of autism among children. As part of India’s Ministry of Health, write a policy memo outlining the current state of India’s health industry ability to deal with this and whether policy direction should be maintained or changed.
