Topic 2: Muscle Campaign

The Ice Bucket Challenge took the country by storm in the summer of 2014. It raised over $115 million for ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis aka Lou Gehrig’s Disease) research and brought new attention to this devastating neuromuscular disease. Individuals and groups filmed themselves dumping buckets of ice over themselves while pledging money for ALS research. Eventually, the research funded by this challenge produced information that has advanced the understanding of the disease. These videos were spread through social media and made it onto local and national newscasts as more and more stories were produced about this challenge.
