Attached is a link to a newspaper article discussing the merger of Sentara, a local healthcare system, and Cone Health, a large hospital system in North Carolina. Try to put yourself in the place of a Healthcare Manager currently employed by the Cone Healthcare System. Your area of responsibility is the Outpatient Diagnostic Services facility for Cone.

As with any organizational change, your staff is going to have questions and concerns. As part of this discussion:

  1. Address and consider the following:
  • Describe at least two concerns that the current employees of Cone might have regarding the merger.
  • Discuss the psychological rationale or theories of motivation (e.g. Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, Herzberg etc.) that trigger these concerns
  • Discuss the challenges as a manager that you will have in addressing the concerns
