Conventional Object Creative Writing Task

Conventional Object Creative Writing Task

Think of a conventional object that is near and dear to you (not a person or place) and describe it in unconventional ways.

The main thing to keep in mind is NOT to explicitly say what object your writing about. Given how many objects that can be chosen and how limited my restrictions are, there are virtually infinite variations of this project.

  • Here is an example of how this project might proceed. First, think of a common object (e.g., an apple). Now, think of three adjectives that describe that object (e.g., red, juicy, and round). Finally, free-write a description of that object without using any of the three adjectives initially used to describe that object.
  • Note that this response can be either prose or poetry.
  • Also, feel free to use less than 700 words, but know the quality still must remain high.
  • Have fun with this. It is not meant to be “academic.” Afterall, it is a creative writing assignment. Your goal is to amuse me.
