The term sexually transmitted infection (STI) is a broad term and refers to a variety of different types of infections that are transmitted during sexual activity. There often is stigma associated with having a sexually transmitted infection. You may encounter women who are reluctant to discuss their sexual activity or encounters with their partner/partners. It is your role to create an environment where your patients feel respected and safe to share relevant and personal information.
Discuss strategies for prevention, screening, diagnosis, and management of vaginitis and sexually transmitted infections. In what instances are you required to report an STI?
