The task:

Select one of the more common statistical tests used in nursing research. State which statistic you selected. What level of measurement is required for using your selected statistical test? Provide an example of how your selected statistical test could be used in a nursing research study.

YOU answered:

Statistical tests offer a structure or a platform for building quantitative decisions regarding a process or processes. Rebekah and Ravindran (2018) mentioned that statistical tests help explore quantitative data trends, patterns, and relationships. The Chi-Square Test is commonly utilized in evaluating the connection between categorical variables. Thus, the null hypothesis in this test depicts no relationship between the variables, meaning they are independent.

Gilbert and Prion (2016) mentioned that the Chi-Square Test is non-modulus or distribution-free and should be utilized when variables’ measurement level is ordinal or minimal. The Chi-Square Test is applied when comparing observed and expected results in nursing research. I will describe the Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), a statistical test for comparing conditions or independent groups to explore the difference in a continuous variable. It helps put distinct observed variance data into components for extra tests. It is also useful in understanding relationships between dependent and independent variables. Notably, the ANOVA analyzes the effect of factors by comparing various samples (Rebekah & Ravindran, 2018).

In the ANOVA, the measurement level for the dependent variable must be interval or ratio (i.e., continuous). On the other hand, the measurement level for the independent variable must be nominal or ordinal (i.e., categorical). When handling categorical variables, nursing researchers should utilize the Chi-Square Test and use ANOVA when handling both categorical and continuous variables.

THE TASK NOW:

THE INSTRUCTOR ASKED ME THIS QUESTION AND THIS QUESTION SHOULD BE ANSWERED:

Based on the information you have presented here did you consider using a different statistical test, if so, which? If not which, could you utilize?
