The purpose of this assignment is to help you understand the socialization of alcohol use in our society. Please answer the following questions:
- How and where are alcohol products advertised, and what images are linked to alcohol use (e.g., beer commercials during televised sporting events)?
- How is drinking alcohol viewed differently from smoking cigarettes or using other drugs? In what ways do these differences affect the social acceptability of alcohol use?
- Do you think it is appropriate for alcohol use to be viewed differently from smoking cigarettes or using other drugs? Why or why not?
- How might we shift societal views regarding drinking alcohol in a way to limit drinking problems?
