Defining Cultural Humility in the Context of Public Health

IMPORTANT NOTE REGARDING WORD LIMIT REQUIREMENTS:

Please note that each and every assignment has its own word limit.

Provide your own definition of cultural humility in the context of public health and Topic Material Comparison.

Cultural humility from my perspective in the context of public health is being able to advocate for change and understand the culture of individuals, and how their beliefs can impact their health actions that will bring guidance in providing the right methods in treating individuals of different lifestyles. My definition compares the points made in the Topic Material, “Reflection on Cultural Humility, as both definitions add points of constructing and implementing approaches that help understand differences among cultures, and the point to bring a level of awareness to address gaps while advocating for systemic changes for all. Moreover, cultural humility has aspirations of acquiring partnerships, creating change within communities, and understanding diversity among groups (Waters & Asbill, 2013).

In addition to cultural humility, describe one other principle necessary when communicating public health content to engage communities to act and example.

Defining Cultural Humility in the Context of Public Health

In addition to cultural humility to engage communities, Participatory Techniques for community-based program development is beneficial as it teaches planning, monitoring, and evaluation approaches. This type of program allows individuals within a community to improve their health through participatory learning, and action (PLA), which allows one to examine their needs, find resolutions to problems and resources to meet those needs while developing action plans for solutions (Negri et al., 1998). Moreover, when communities identify issues on their own, they tend to rally together to find reasonable, sustainable, long-term results. An example of this would be for communities to engage, and collectively address their concerns, provide assessments, and build teams for sharing of information to advocate for change within their community.
