Nurses assess and anticipate care that the patient may need before they need it or expect it. When nurses assess patients, we not only need to assess them but also their surroundings and environment. We can anticipate what they may need and provide education to help improve their health and wellness (Lunardelli et al., 2021).
I believe that King’s Conceptual Frame of Reference can apply this is concept. This framework is focused on relationships between personal, interpersonal and social systems (Utley et al, 2018). While creating relationships with our patients we can continue to assess and anticipate their needs. I know that other health care disciplines provide care, but I feel the nurse is the heart of patient care. The nurse is the typically the person they see the most, the person that offers them comfort and the nurse who educates them on how to feel better and stay healthy.
Nurses develop relationships with their patients that instill trust. When patients trust their healthcare providers, they are more likely to follow education to promote wellness. I believe that when we can sit down and look our patients in the eye and educate them on what their disease is and how to manage it they are more likely to follow thru.
I just got home from admitting a patient to hospice who is COVID positive, and he nor his wife have no knowledge of what can happen with COVID, how long they are considered contagious or how to care for themselves. I feel they have a better understanding of what is occurring but I feel if they had this education 2 weeks ago they would not be COVID positive and he would not be dying.
