Research article review.  Students will identify a current clinical problem in their nursing practice setting and conduct a literature search specifically looking for nursing research to examine the problem.  Select a nursing research article that discusses the problem with application of a specific nursing theoretical framework.  Use an article with a specific Middle Range Theory as its Theoretical Framework.  Provide a critical analysis of the article and then brief application of the MRT to their identified problem.

Paper should be minimum 2 to maximum of 4 pages of text in length. (not including cover and reference page)

Grading Rubric

Introduction and identification of clinical problem  – 3 points

Nursing search process – identify search database and search terms used – 1 point

Nursing Research Article Critical Analysis: (Be sure to address the following in Critique.) 

  • Peer reviewed journal within last 5 years – 2 point
  • Review purpose and problem statement – 2 points
  • Review of literature used in the study – 2 points
  • Theoretical Framework of the Study – a Middle Range Theory – 3 points
  • Sample  2 points
  • Ethical Considerations – 2 points
  • Research methods – data analysis, reliability and validity 2 points

Application of the MRT to the identified problem – 4 points

APA format – 2 points
