Nursing centers on theories and principles that can be tested and measured. Thanks to the mother of Nursing Florence Nightingale, who refused to accept the inappropriate positional belief given to women, nursing has been evolving theories, principles, and concepts. Nursing paradigm theory is the main amplifying and a backbone for the nursing profession and professionals. The prominent nursing metaparadigm: human being, environment, health, and nursing are the four concepts inherent in the nursing metaparadigm (Ulutasdemir, N. Ed. & contributing authors, 2021).  For this assignment, I will present these four nursing paradigms related to patient education that can help symptoms management for patients with chronic health conditions.

To begin with, patient education involves understanding the uniqueness of our patient with acknowledging that a person is greater than the sum of her/his medical history (Ulutasdemir and contributors, 2021). A person must get nursing care depending on its holism while holism refers to the embodiment of the patient experience (Ulutasdemir and contributors, 2021). When educating patients, nurses shall assess their self-awareness so they don’t reflect their persona that can interfere with holistic care provision (Ulutasdemir and contributors, 2021).  Besides, as the environment is patients’ surroundings such as social and emotional, it needs due consideration when planning and implementing patient education. Thus, a nurse must consider patients’ family, friends, community, economic condition, education, and geographical locations when educating a patient (“Nursing Metaparadigm concepts and theory,” 2020).

Likewise, the health “component correlates with where a person falls on the health-illness continuum at the time of their encounter with a nurse” (“Nursing Metaparadigm concepts and theory,” 2020). In the case of my theory, the nurse must know what will be health concerns for chronically diabetic patients and tailor the education plan accordingly. During the educational process, the nurse needs to know what is a healthy and unhealthy lifestyle and determine how to deliver education. Nursing involves the theory and practice for cooperation and communication, the nursing component refers to one’s nursing knowledge and skills it takes to perform the duties and responsibilities associated with care provision (“Nursing Metaparadigm concepts and theory,” 2020).

In general, when educating patients to help them participate in their care plan, detailed assessment with careful planning is crucial centering on the four nursing paradigms. In the case of my theory, all paradigms are aligned; educating (the nursing duty with the consideration of patients’ environmental factors), diabetic patients (human beings that are connected), will help with symptoms management (the health).
