The Advance Practice Nurse (APN) role has revolutionized in many ways since the start of the role. The needs of patients and the baby boomer period have led to an increasing demand for healthcare providers (Brom et al., 2018). Other challenges include a shortage of reliable and qualified employees in healthcare. The (APN) holds a master’s degree and has completed clinical education towards continued comprehensive in-depth training to fulfill the clinical requirements to care for patients (Raftery, 2016). With the increase in clinical requirements to stay ahead of the ever-changing needs of patients and rapid changes of technology, there are a few approaches to proposed action plans.
Why might the development and transformation of roles based on medical gaps cause problems for the development of APRN? Barriers exist, and these barriers can also include role challenges, not having uniformity with educational programs, scope of practice and degree conflicts. What actions might a nurse take to reduce this? Allowing (APN’s) to practice at their full scope and within their educational needs can assist with overcoming inconsistency with educational barriers. Clearly, the role of (APN) is clearly defined and aligned with the role, regardless of practicing state.
In what ways can an APRN distinguish his or her role from other nursing roles and medical counterparts? The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) role is broad, but also depends on specialty. Some of these specialties include Certified Nurse-Midwife (CRM), clinical nurse specialist (CNS) and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA). Each role is very different in the scope of practice as each role provides different contributions and how the patient is cared for. The (APN) role overcomes each role listed as the (APN) role focuses on the treatment of the patient, the medical and clinical aspect of physical assessments and medical treatments. It can be difficult to compare the roles as they all hold different roles of patient care. Why might this event be important? This fact is important as the (CNS) did not complete the clinical components to medically treat a patient, which means the (CNS) can’t safely be delegated to prescribe medication for the patient.
How can APRNs encourage nursing-based outcome studies? The impact of the patient outcome is very important as it is the difference between life and death. By choosing evidence-based practice which is gathered information from research helps determine the best route of action for the patient and the practicing (APN).
