Why is the policy important to health care? 3
What stakeholders are impacted by this policy (e.g., health care consumers, medical staff, etc.)? 4
In your opinion:

Is the policy effective?

Is it meeting the needs of the population as intended?

How has the effectiveness of the policy been verified?

In my opinion, the policy is definitely effective. Being able to protect patient’s privacy is vital. Because patients are given the right to protect their personal information, I would say that it is meeting the needs of the population as intended. Health care organizations are usually very cautious when using patient’s personal information because of the significant risk it carries. Management and technology has changed drastically since the HIPAA policy went in effect in 1996. Because of this, patient’s personal information has been safeguarded more than ever before. It has been verified by system audits being able to check to see who has been in a patient’s chart and what has been seen.

Discuss the health and societal issues that had an impact on the development of the health care policy. 6
